If your laptop is not turning on, not charging, or keeps turning off unexpectedly, there are a few simple checks you can try before contacting the ICT Helpdesk. Many power-related issues can be resolved by checking the charger connection, power outlet or battery charge level.
Quick Troubleshooting Steps -
- Ensure the charger is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
- Check that the power outlet is working by testing it with another device.
- Look for any charging lights on the laptop. (Usually seen on the left side of the device)
- Leave the laptop connected to power for at least 15 minutes, then try turning it on again.
- If the laptop will not turn on, Press and hold the power button for 45 seconds, then release it and try turning it on again.
- If available, try a different charger that is known to be working.
- Check the charger and cable for any visible damage.
Contact ICT If -
- The laptop still will NOT turn on.
- The battery is not charging.
- The charger appears damaged.
- The laptop turns off unexpectedly even when plugged in.
- You notice unusual heat, smells or physical damage.
If the issue continues after completing the above steps, please contact the ICT Helpdesk and provide details of what you have already tried.
Test the Outlet. Inspect the Cable. Watch for indicator lights (Signs of Life). Hard / Soft Reset.
